Human Portraits
Celebrating the Human Stories of our People.

Human Portraits is a collection of micro documentaries that explores the rich human tapestry of The Community Transport Company — shining a spotlight on the volunteers and passengers at the heart of our service.

Told through the lens of young, local emerging filmmakers, each short film captures the personal stories, quiet strength, and everyday moments that show just how vital community transport is to the people who use and support it.

These aren’t stories about transport. They’re stories about connection, independence, resilience, and generosity and humour.

More Than a Ride

Our volunteers and passengers are valuable, vibrant members of the community. They are storytellers, neighbours, professionals, advocates and friends. Every ride shared is a story waiting to be told — and through these films, we honour their experiences, perspectives, and contributions.

Whether it’s a volunteer driver giving their time to make someone’s day a little brighter, or a passenger whose trip brings them closer to essential services, friends, or simple joy — Human Portraits reveals the humanity behind every journey.

Bridging Generations Through Storytelling

At the heart of this project is a meaningful exchange between generations. As emerging filmmakers sit down with older community members — listening, filming, asking questions — something special happens. Wisdom is shared. Perspectives are widened. The process becomes more than just filmmaking; it becomes a two-way conversation that brings greater value to everyone involved.

These films are not only about the people being documented — they’re also shaped by the relationship formed between storyteller and subject. This intergenerational collaboration enriches the stories and deepens the understanding of what it means to be part of a connected, caring community.
Meet the Filmmakers
This project also proudly supports the next generation of local storytellers. Each documentary was created by an emerging filmmaker with deep ties to the region and a passion for real, human stories.

Matt Simon (portrait?)

Tweed Heads

At just 20 years old, Matt brings a creative eye and a deep sense of community to his work. Based in Tweed Heads, he holds a Diploma in Film and Screen and is an active member of the local surfing scene. Matt’s storytelling is shaped by his coastal lifestyle and a natural connection to people — which comes through in the warmth and authenticity of his films.

Henry Simmonds (portrait?)

Macksville

Henry, 19, is a recent high school graduate from Macksville with a clear passion for film. He’s soon headed to Sydney to study Screen Production at film school, but his roots in regional NSW continue to inspire his work. Henry brings sensitivity, curiosity, and a fresh perspective to Human Portraits, capturing the quiet power of everyday lives.
Real people. Real stories. Real community.
